The program is a virtual opportunity class and gives students access to expanded educational activities through connected classroom technology.
Three hundred students from Western NSW sat an exam for entry into the class.
Of the students selected, who range from years five to eight, 15 attend schools based in Orange.
Western NSW Regional Gifted And Talented Students (GATS) coordinator Barbara Bannister said the class created opportunities for increased interaction between regional students.
Students participating in the course are released from normal classes for a few hours each week to participate in online learning activities.
They will also work on creative research projects on the theme ‘mystery’, which will be showcased at expos in Orange and Dubbo on July 9.
Mrs Bannister said the course was a fantastic opportunity for gifted students in regional NSW.
“They will have access to expanded learning opportunities without having to leave home,” Mrs Bannister said.
“They will be extended and challenged and have an opportunity to meet other students of like minds.”
