Mrs Bracks, 36, who was a teacher before she had her three children, said her supportive husband encouraged her to compete on MasterChef.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” she said.
“I watched the last two series and thought it looked like fun and a great opportunity to learn.
“I saw the contestants when they started to when they finished and watched them grow.”
Mrs Bracks, who described her cooking style as “eclectic” said her cooking didn’t show a bias towards one particular country’s cuisine.
“I like to cook lots of different things; Italian, Asian and country foods.
“I just like food!”
Brought up in Sydney before moving to Orange, she is one of 12 NSW contestants to make it into the top 50 position.
Taste Orange’s marketing and sponsorship manager Vanessa Delaney said it was very exciting to have a representative of Orange make it so far into the competition.
“The profile this will give to our region is such a positive thing, and can only strengthen our reputation as being an area where wonderful fresh produce is grown and people who love to cook flourish,” she said.
“The MasterChef audience will be tempted to get out here to Orange and see what all the fuss is about, and they won’t be disappointed.
“Orange is well-known for having some of the best cooks and restaurants in Australia, and hopefully this season of MasterChef will see yet another wonderful Orange person succeed in their love of cooking, come back to Orange, and do great things with it.
“We wish Kate all the best in the show.”
Ex-pro golfer and former Orange resident Lucas Parsons was a finalist on MasterChef 2009.
This year’s MasterChef judges include regulars Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and George Calombaris and new judge Matt Moran.
Special guests set to make an appearance in the series include Heston Blumenthal, Nigella Lawson, Rick Stein, Maggie Beer and Adriano Zumbo.
The first episode of the series will air on the Ten Network at 7.30pm tomorrow.
