Could barber Lindsay Totman help the nation’s first female prime minister fix a “dreadful” hairdo?

These were just some of the questions thrown around inside the Hotel Canobolas barber shop on a historic day in politics.

“Because the news broke last night, everyone was ready for it,” said Julie Ridley as her husband had his hair cut.

“But I still find what’s happening a little unsettling.

“There doesn’t seem to be any commitment in politics, there’s no loyalty.

“Everyone is saying this is the first female prime minister and that is a good thing, but at what cost?

“It’s a real turning point but I’m not exactly sure where it leaves us, the voters.

“It has been very unfortunate.”

Mr Totman said his clients were not disappointed with Kevin Rudd’s demise.

“Well put it this way, I haven’t seen anybody walk in here in tears just yet,” he said.

“Personally, I never liked the bloke, he’s an egotistical maniac.

“I think she could be even worse.

“She could borrow a tiara from the Queen and still have a dreadful hairdo.”
