The funding was provided through the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing under the Community Aged Care Workforce Development Program, the training was delivered by OCTEC Incorporated in Orange.
Workers were from CareWest, Ascott Gardens and UnitingCare Ageing in Orange, Prunus Lodge, Molong, and Catholic Care Community Care in Bathurst.
OCTEC training coordinator Margaret Henry says with Australia’s ageing population and an ageing workforce, the Community Services and Health Industry faces critical challenges.
“The demand for increased numbers of workers in this sector will only get stronger, in particular with the growth in and the need for more community care/packaged care places and residential care,” she said.
“Building and strengthening workforce capacity in community care is a crucial strategic direction for aged care services and up-skilling the existing workforce enables the services to grow their own staff.”
Throughout the training, participants gained effective knowledge and skills to assist them on the job including developing, monitoring and coordinating service delivery strategies and plans, and working with volunteers.
