Dr Deblitz is one of the industry experts who will speak at a forum on Wednesday on “Building Beef Returns”, a joint project of Charles Sturt University's AARC, the Central West Regional Development Board, the Australian National Field Days (ANFD) and Orange City Council.
With Australia the world's second largest beef exporter after Brazil, Dr Deblitz believes understanding the Asian market is the key to success.
“The Japanese like the Wagyu breed, pure or crossed with Angus. They have very strict export requirements. There is a lot of live export, and also some high quality beef,” he said.
Japan is the largest market for Australian beef.
As well as the forum, a practical morning session at the ANFD site at Borenore will demonstrate muscle density testing and low stress stock handling techniques.
NSW Farmer of the Year Rob Sinnamon will also speak at the forum about meeting the Asian markets.
