‘Call back’ is a presentation of the top HSC dance works in the state. The three girls have reached the first stage of the audition process where they submit footage of their works for consideration for the showcase.
Erin Camery from Canobolas Rural Technology High School, Karina Holden from Orange High School and Rosslyn Wythes from Kinross Wolaroi School have been short-listed for the prestigious event.
Ms Camery was inspired by a 60 Minutes story on schizophrenia to create her piece.
“That was the stimulus,” she said. “And it just grew from there.”
Ms Holden’s piece was based on the effects of the use of the drug ‘ice’.
“I didn’t expect it,” she said, on the news that she had been shortlisted.
Dance teacher Ms Shea Atchison wasn’t at all surprised.
“I knew they would do well,” she said. “They’ve worked very hard. It will definitely help to build up dance and performance within Orange High.”
The students will have to wait until after their written HSC exams in October to find out if they have been accepted to present at ‘call back’, which will be held at Newtown High School early next year.
Their success follows that of Orange High student Natalie Halcroft who was one of the state’s top achievers last year in e2’s inaugural dance class.
