The construction means McDonald’s will be able to double the number of drive-through orders it takes.
The additional driveway will run parallel to the existing one and will enable staff to take orders from both simultaneously.
Orange McDonald’s owner Joanne Lewis said the tender process was underway and she hoped the additional driveway would be up and running in the next couple of months.
“We’ll have it operating as soon as we possibly can,” she said.
“It [a second drive-through] is very efficient, I’ve seen in working in the States and in Australia.”
Mrs Lewis said the more streamlined service would ensure large orders didn’t slow down the traffic flow at one of the region’s busiest outlets.
“In Orange we get a lot of large single orders, from large families or even football teams,” she said.
“We sometimes have people ordering 10 Big Macs through the drive-through, and that can slow down the cars behind.”
Construction of the lane is expected to cost $60,000, according to the development application submitted to council.
