The Lake House is Mr Crawley’s new vision for the Lake Canobolas kiosk.
A lease with Orange City Council is being finalised and Mr Crawley hopes to open in the next few weeks.
Canoe and bike hire, local produce sales and a wine bar are some of his ideas to revitalise the kiosk, which has struggled to attract tenants in the past.
“I’ve had a look at the history of previous tenants. I just don’t think they’ve had the right vision. It just needs a lift to draw people here. It’s a great location and I just think it’s going to waste,” he said.
Mr Crawley grew up in Sydney and was living in Bondi until moving to Orange about a year ago.
He wants to bring a relaxed beachside atmosphere to The Lake House in summer and make it a cosy retreat in winter.
“I want to change the whole feel of it and promote it as something the community uses on a daily basis. People can come to the lake for a swim, a bike ride or a run and then come here to get a good breakfast and a coffee or juice. In winter it’s just a matter of changing the menu with soups and things. I’ll put a little fireplace in and focus on recreational activities you can do in winter,” he said.
A kiosk window has been constructed at the side of the building for sales of ice-cream, drinks and snacks, while extensive refurbishment will create a cafe area inside.
Mr Crawley will apply for a liquor licence and try to attract music and other events to The Lake House.
“I’m trying to create an experience. It will be lifestyle and recreation-based,” he said.
