In a bid to stay ahead of the curve and provide former players and supporters with unprecedented access, Orange Emus president Steve Fergus announced his club will live stream its 2018 Blowes Clothing Cup home games live via Facebook.

“We were constantly approached through Facebook last season, with people asking if we could provide a live stream of games,” he explained.
“This will never replicate the success of the (Intrust Super) Shute Shield being broadcast, but that competition’s shift to a commercial station has more eyeballs on those games and that’s resulted in a massive increase in crowd numbers, it helps reinforce the tribal nature of rugby too.
“We don’t want this to replace people coming to games, obviously, but we know not everyone can and plenty of supporters aren’t in Orange anymore so it’s a great way to keep everyone engaged with the club.”
Fergus explained the club flirted with the idea of a live stream during last year’s finals series, but it didn’t come together with short notice working against the greens.
It’ll be a high quality stream too, he explained.
“Using GPS, the camera we’ve purchased films the game to a pretty high standard, so it’s not just people on the sidelines with a phone,” Fergus said.
“We talked about it for the finals last year but we decided it was more realistic for 2018, and with the help of Magnolia Lane Financial Services we’ve been able to do move forward with the idea.
“Beyond just the streaming, it will help our club from a development perspective by having that footage available for coaches and players, which will help us continue to professionalise our preparation and training.
“We’re really excited to see what we can do with this camera, but right now being able to get the game out there in front of people is a big step.”
