The tour of historic homes and eclectic mix of art took on extra significance in its 13th edition, being tied in with the village’s 150th anniversary.
To mark the occasion a book – Historic Homes of Millthorpe and District - was compiled and launched by the Golden Memories Museum committee, with its 10 picturesque homes and their gardens syndicated into the ramble, with some of them featuring artworks.
President of the Millthorpe Garden Ramble, Lyndall Harrison, said the weekend’s attractions were too good to resist, with some visitors traveling from interstate.
“A lot of people came from Sydney and some as far as Queensland,” Mrs Harrison said.
“The vibe and atmosphere in the village was tremendous, a hub of activity with streams of people.”
She said the flow-on effects for the village’s economy were significant.
“The garden ramble and art trail not only showcase the beautiful gardens, art and historic houses, but also Millthorpe in its entirety, and business was pumping,” Mrs Harrison said.
“Every business owner – whether they were cafes, wineries or other retailers – had a very successful weekend.
“The businesses of Millthorpe Providore, Le Billot de Boucher and Chocolates with Purpose all ran out of food and needed to restock on Saturday night.”
That the event ran so smoothly was largely due to the 150-strong team of volunteers, particularly the gardens’ owners who, according to Mrs Harrison, “worked tirelessly for the past two months to prepare”.
The president was particularly thrilled to see the younger generations from Millthorpe and beyond engaging with the event.
“For the first time this year we included the young kids into the magical event, giving them a booklet to find clues around each garden,” she explained.
“Many younger families are looking for ideas for how they can look to improving their gardens.”
The village’s anniversary celebrations will continue at 9am on Friday, November 17 when Millthorpe Public School opens its doors for the raising of a time capsule.
The launch of the Stone Wall entrance will be held at 10.30am the following day.
