The fire broke out in a shed adjacent to a residence near the intersection of the highway and Newman Street.
Five crews from the Canobolas Zone NSW Rural Fire Service, as well as NSW Fire and Rescue teams, were on the scene and brought the blaze under control by noon.
Traffic in both directions on the Mitchell Highway was affected, with vehicles backed up for up to one kilometre. There were also power outages in and around Lucknow.
Canobolas LAC Inspector Adam Beard said fire investigators would inspect the scene on Monday morning and that police didn’t believe the fire was suspicious.
