This is a professionally ranked tournament with prize money and ranking points.
It uses Australia’s official ranking and is the same system that ranks other well known Aussies such as Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic.
Josh Ristvej played his first match in the men’s open singles against an opponent of sub 600 ranked players.
He managed to score some early games but overall couldn’t convert important break points to gain further headway.
However, he said he enjoyed the great experience playing against these high-level players.
Carl Buchtmann and Ningshong Cai had similar results and reciprocated Josh’s comments. Good on you guys and hats off to you for participating.
Another pleasing roll-up greeted organisers for the second of our newly run, American comp on Wednesday night.
We had three courts going again and the night was just perfect, weather wise.
Before the commencement of play Rod Buesnel read out the results from last week.
In first place was Brett Campbell on 18 games, second was Josh Ristvej on 16 games and third was Peter Atkins on 15 games.
Brett won a free hit voucher which he used this week.
Even though the comp has commenced players are still welcome to come along and join in.
November will see another men’s singles comp recommence.
All men who participated in this comp in August really enjoyed it, so the club is bringing it back by popular demand.
The comp will be held on Sundays, November 5, 19 and 26 and December 3, hitting off from 10am and finishing up about 1pm.
Please note: no games on November 12.
Names are to be written on the list on notice board and lunch will be provided by tennis club.
On November 12 the annual Orange Ex-Services Clubs’ Sports Awards will be held at the Country Club, commencing at 11am, with activities by all intra-clubs, after which awards will be presented and lunch will be served.
Tickets may be purchased from the Orange Ex-Services Clubs’ back reception desk for a very reasonable $5.
Also on the same weekend November 11-12, the Bathurst Seniors Tournament will be held. Events will include singles, American doubles, men’s and ladies doubles and mixed doubles.
The tennis club is open by appointment only, for court hire, by phoning 6362 8020. Mixed social will be on as usual on Sunday from 1.30pm. Committee person Col Parsons on duty.
