That’s the attitude Orange District Junior Cricket Association will take after Sunday’s opening round of the Mitchell Cricket Council representative season in Orange, the black and golds sealing wins in two of the three junior age groups.
Orange scored comfortable wins over traditional rivals Bathurst in under 12s and under 14s – both sides are defending last summer’s titles – but went down to the same side in under 16s.
Orange bowled superbly to restrict Bathurst to just 7-88 in the under 12s clash, before Dan Hunter (22 not out) and Angus Cornish (21) made sure the chase was successful.
Thomas Madigan led the way for Orange’s gun under 14s unit, top-scoring with the bat before snaring multiple scalps with the ball as the black and golds claimed a 35-run win at Jack Brabham 1.
Madigan blasted 43 from number seven, helping Orange to 9-159, Nick Murphy was next best with 36.
Madigan grabbed 2-12 from his four overs as well.
Along with Luke Hunter (2-17) and Jono Rasmussen (2-27), Madigan helped Orange roll Bathurst for 124 in reply.
It was a tough day at the office for Orange’s under 16s though, thanks to the efforts of Bathurst’s Ben Cant, Ben Mitchell and Izac Chirwigin.
Cant and Mitchell combined for an 81-run third wicket stand, making 82 and 59 respectively, as the visitors piled on 7-237 at Country Club Oval.
After that Chirwigin rolled through Orange, taking 6-8 to skittle the hosts for 104.
The second round in all three age groups is on Sunday, November 5.
