Orange City only lost three wickets while chasing down Bathurst City’s 115, needing only 17.3 overs to pass their target.
Ben Findlay and David Boundy put on a 10-over opening stand, and the result never seemed in doubt during the chase.
The comfortable chase was set up by a good bowling performance from Orange City.
Orange skipper Shaun Grenfell said the bowling was the key which set up the win.
“That was the difference, their bowling wasn’t tight. They bowled a few more loose balls,” he said.
“Cootey [Jackson Coote] bowled really well, and I was was really impressed with Brett Causer, he bowled well and hit the spot.”
Coote finished with 2-19, and Causer 2-14, both off four overs.
“Ed [Morrish]’s second spell was really good, with good lines. Restricting them to 115 is really good for this format,” Grenfell said.
“They batted quite well, and with one really good partnership [with Morris and Earle] in particular.”
He said there was no particular plan aside from sticking to a line and length.
“We tried to go in and restrict runs, stick to the plan and take it as it comes”
He said the first round was a good chance to blow the cobwebs out.
“The fielding was a little bit rusty, but that’s to be expected, but the bowling was good, always asking questions of the batters,” Grenfell said.
“It was a good win to start with.”
Grenfell said Boundy and Findlay opening partnership was a “good platform” which set up the chase.
Even as both openers departed, Findlay for a team high 35 and Boundy for 25, Orange City kept plugging towards the total.
Lachlan Coyte and skipper Grenfell eventually saw them get home with two and a half overs to spare.
Wade Park will host a T20 game next weekend, with Kinross playing Bathurst Panthers.
