The trees are between the Summer Street property’s eastern boundary and the Clancy Weston Lodge Nursing Home.
The application includes a letter from landscape architect Jason Zhao who said the trees were old and provided dense shade that limited activity in a courtyard.
“The trees are over mature and have dead and/or decaying branches, which could be potentially hazardous for residents,” he said.
The facility is proposing to replace the trees with six new trees and a vegetable garden.
“The tree roots are buckling the fence that separates the subject and neighbouring properties which is causing structural issues,” he said.
A council spokesman said the application had been on public display and no objections had been received.
He said the application was still under review.
