The Dubbo-based whistle-blower was appointed to the grand final after stellar performances through the year, which he’s continued through the finals series so far too.
Thomas watched over Emus’ win over Forbes in the major semi-final and then officiated in the Platypi’s preliminary final victory over Bathurst Bulldogs last weekend, maintaining his No.1 ranking leading into the decider.
“This will be Pete’s second first grade grand final in the last three years, his appointment tops off a competitive finals series where a number of referees’ performances were considered before the final appointments were made,” Central West Rugby Union Referees Association president Ian Richardson said.
Thomas will be assisted by touch judges Jarrod Simpson and Brett Mawbey, with Richard Madden the reserve.
Madden, who marked his 150th top grade game earlier this season, will referee the second grade decider between Emus and Bulldogs. Sean Magnusson and Evelyn George will run touch.
CSU Bathurst student Vittorio Travan will control the third grade grand final between Bulldogs and Orange CIty, with Mawbey and Ian Robertson running the lines. It’s Travan’s first grand final appearance, and it’s George’s too.
A Coolah native, George will referee the women’s game between Cowra and Bulldogs. Harry Orr and Robertson are her linesmen.
Simpson is refereeing the colts clash between Orange City and Bulldogs, Pete Egan and Robertson on the lines.
”All of the members of the association wish the grand final match officials every success for their games, and look forward to all teams involved in the grand finals putting their best performance on the paddock for the season’s end,” Richardson said.
