The demonstration featured the Black Hornet and Wasp unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and followed a discussion of army careers that use UAVs, which are similar to to drones.
Canobolas High deputy principal innovation Matt Scott said the students who took part were from the school’s Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) program who have been looking at future careers in the field throughout the week.
“We’re looking at how technology has changed how people work,” Mr Scott said.
He said 65 per cent of jobs that will be around when the current year 6 and 7 cohort are ready to enter the workforce don’t exist yet.
He said the army discussed how the use of UAVs has changed how they work, how it has made their jobs safer in some instances and has also enabled them to access hard to reach or dangerous locations as well as see with infrared images.
On Monday, a former student, Sam Rodwell from Samuel Rodwell Visual Media and Direction also demonstrated how he uses drones for filming and photography and explained how he became a drone operator.
