That was the message coming out of council chambers on Friday when council unveiled its four-year plan to build and replace parts of the walking network.
Around $1.4 million will be spent – or $350,000 every year until 2021 – on footpaths.
That’s triple what has been spent annually in previous years.
An additional $800,000, funded through developer contributions, will be spent on footpaths for new subdivisions north of the Northern Distributor Road.
Council’s infrastructure committee chairman Glenn Taylor said the community’s feedback had shaped the four-year plan.
“The community have overwhelmingly told us they’re not happy with the condition of some of our footpaths,” Cr Taylor said.
“There are a number of areas which haven’t got footpaths at all.”
As well as improving footpaths Cr Taylor said the increased spend would see workers hired to complete the work.
Cr Taylor also said there was provision in the plan to add or remove work, depending upon its need.
“We think we’ve got it pretty right so far, but if people believe that we need to modify and we need put footpaths in other areas, we’re open and we’ll listen to their concerns.”

Mayor John Davis said council’s staff had identified all the blemishes and problems that existed with the city’s network of footpaths.
“A lot of [the footpaths] are 30, 40 and 50 years old and could even be longer,” Cr Davis said.
“The fact is this has been an ongoing problem for a long time.”
Cr Davis denied the project hadn’t been rushed in response to recent criticism and warned the cost may be felt in future budgets.
“I’ve got to say, over the next three to four years, there will have to be a bit of tightening on some other projects,” he said.
“That’s what people don’t understand, councils do not have an unlimited amount of money.”
Cr Davis said work on walking paths was happening already, with a a new footpath built outside the Anson Street School.
“It’s not because of an election in two or three months, far from it,” Cr Davis said.
“Councils like ours and every other council operate on five-, 10- and 15-year programs.
“Guess what, this is in that program.”
