ABOUT $350,000-worth of whitegoods, toys and furniture went under the hammer on Sunday and everyone in attendance was after something different.

Burns Auctions hosted its monthly live auction at its Barrett Court headquarters, clearing refurbished, ex-demo, factory second, liquidated and police-seized items.

The wines kicked off the auction, with a Margaret River shiraz selling for $3 a bottle, while a 1972 bottle of Grange sold for $500.

Millthorpe’s Bruce Whiley scored a shiraz, saying it “should be alright hopefully”, but he had his eye on furniture and had bought from the auctions several times.

“We’re just buying furniture for our holiday home,” he said.

The Morley family are also regulars for the prices and atmosphere and Emma Morley said they were after a tall boy.

“We’ve bought a lot of furniture – our dining room table and entertainment unit – and this would match the set,” she said.

“Sometimes we’ve paid less than half the price than we would retail.”

Bradley McNabb said his family was after an oven.

“We just came to see whether we could get a bargain,” he said.

Bidders performed well on the children’s toys, with packs or trucks, cooking sets and dinosaurs selling at about $50, while a seized JVC camera sold for $40.
