Played at Glen Willow in Mudgee, Mariners conceded two first-half goals to University of NSW’s forward Yadira Rengifo.
University of NSW dominated the possession and chances in the opening half, but the second half proved a more even contest as the Mariners attempted to get themselves back into the contest but ultimately lost the game 2-0.
Mariners skipper Teegan Courtney said it was not her team’s day.
“They were coming off uni games and we though we could get them,” she said.
“It was our young team coming up against a team full of university girls, who train more days than us.
“Lauren [Stein] came back from injury. She was full of energy, playing in both the midfield and defence.
“Jasmine Courtenay was back and her intensity up top helped.”
Courtenay had not played a game since early June.
Mariners’ loss sees the club drop down to fourth on the ladder, while University of NSW jumped to second place.
Regardless of the loss, Mariners are still in a finals position.
