Owner Paul Rees and Shirley Dawson are retiring to the central coast.
“I’m going to spend my days walking my dog along the beach,” Mr Rees said.
As owning the Anson Street shop for 18 years, Mr Rees operated a store and workshop in Dubbo before selling it after 40 years.
He said there had been a technological shift in small business and costs were rising.
The store’s long-serving manager Sharon Straney said she is disappointed to be leaving, but said her customers would still see her around Orange.
GATHERING TO TALK ABOUT OILSEEDS
MANILDRA’S MSM Milling hosted the CSIRO’s chief agriculture and food research scientist John Kirkegaard and Australian Oilseeds Federation (AOF) representatives last week.
Dr Kirkegaard developed the dual purpose canola technique where the paddock is used for grazing and then for oil seed.
He joined AOF members, which included representatives from eight countries in inspecting Jock and Tom Mac Smith’s property.
AOF executive director Nick Goddard said there were eight countries’ representatives in Manildra.
“It’s important for us to see what is happening globally with farmers and the limitations being put on farming practices, to look at the big picture of the global oilseed business,” Mr Goddard said.
CANOBOLAS CHEF RECOMMENDS THE PORK
IF you visit Gong Thai at the Hotel Canobolas, chef Wan Narkngernthong recommends the Pad Prik King stir-fried pork belly.
Mrs Narkngernthong and her husband Paul have moved to Orange after 24 years at the Harlequin Inn at Pyrmont.
It was there they met the owners of the Hotel Canobolas who have been looking to add a Thai restaurant.
“It was the perfect opportunity,” Mrs Narkngernthong said.
THE COLLECTIVE IS WELL MATCHED
WHAT’S an essential accessory when going shopping? Coffee, of course.
The Collective – Good Eddy cafe, Botanica Flora and Belle Armoire boutique have re-branded their shop in Lords Place.
“It brings together the artisanal thinking outside the traditional retail experience,” Botanica Flora owner Libby Reimers said.
WINE IN THE HOUSE
CANOWINDRA’S Pig in the House winery is celebrating 21 years of producing organic wine and will share their presents with everyone else.
The winery has released a 2016 vintage chardonnay and 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon to celebrate.
