During a visit to Orange the federal opposition’s communications spokeswoman Michelle Rowland encouraged residents to share their experience with the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Ms Rowland said the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) had started the program to find out what people had signed up for and what they were receiving.

In the last six months of 2016, the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) received 7,512 complaints about the NBN.

She said it was important the government hear from more than just metropolitan residents.

“We’re looking for volunteers to monitor what speeds they’re getting,” she said.

“I’m very keen to ensure we get some regional input as well.

“I wouldn’t want this speed monitoring to be used as an opportunity for the government just to blame retail service providers.”
