Lifeline Central West is hosting training in Orange and calling on volunteers to attend an information night on Thursday.
The night will cover the training program which Lifeline runs, beginning with applied suicide intervention skills and mental health first aid.
Lifeline Central West manager Alex Ferguson said it was the first time training has been offered in Orange for six months.
“The Orange community is important in assisting Lifeline to build capacity. We want to grow the service,” Mr Ferguson said.
“We require a team of dedicated individuals that are committed to answering calls that come in from all over the country, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
“It isn’t easy work. It can be highly rewarding, however it’s challenging and stretches you as a person.”
Once training is completed, Lifeline’s crisis supporters will be able to answer the phones in Orange, Bathurst or Dubbo.
Around 2000 calls a month are answered by Lifeline volunteers in the Central West.
