Playing in front of a bumper crowd for the Bears’ ladies day, the struggling Blayney side stuck it to the undefeated, competition-leading CYMS in the first period.
So much so CYMS only led 8-4 at half-time of a game which plenty of people expected to be a bloodbath.
But as the Bears faded CYMS lifted, piling on 32 second half points to ultimately run out 40-8 victors.
The victory maintains CYMS’ unbeaten record through the first half of the 2017 season, a goal the side had set several weeks ago.
It was actually the Bears who struck first on Sunday, scoring through Josh Farr to take a 4-0 lead after just five minutes.
While the home side couldn't score any more points in the first half it certainly did everything it could to stop CYMS.
But eventually the green and golds did go over, returning star James Mortimer crossing in the 25th minute.
Ben McAlpine missed the kick, leaving the game hanging in the balance at 4-4.
Ryan Griffin dived over on half-time to give CYMS an 8-4 lead at the break, after which the visitors gained some momentum and started rumbling forward.
Second half doubles for Chris Bamford and Robbie Mortimer along with tries for Tim Mortimer and Brock McGarity extended CYMS’ lead to 36 points, before Western Rams under-23 gun Rakai Tuheke scored a consolation try for the Bears in the dying stages.
