Jazlyn Blowes-Dean, 14, won grand champion in the craft section for juniors aged 11 to 16 years of age and also came second with another quilt.
Nine-year-old Amelia Blowes won a junior first prize and also won her section.
The girls took up quilting under the guidance of their grandmother Pauline Thomas who was proud of their success and said she usually helps them when they come to stay with her during school holidays.
“I’m proud of them both,” she said.
Mrs Thomas said Amelia has been quilting four years and Jazlyn has been quilting for six years.
Because she has now won a championship ribbon, Jazlyn will go on to compete with the adults at the show next year.
“They missed last year’s show because they weren’t ready for it,” she said.
“They weren’t going to do it [this year] but then they [decided to enter] at the last minute.”
Mrs Thomas said despite the last minute rush to get the quilts completed they made it in time.
Jazlyn said she plans to put her award winning quilt, a large white and multicoloured quilt with angular geometric shapes.
She said the main quilt took about 12 months to make after finding the pattern online.
Amelia said she also plans to put her quilt on her bed and said she chose the design because she likes the colours and she likes owls and included a owl in her design.
