Orange’s David Hayward continued his recent domination of the National Deaf Championships Masters, claiming his third consecutive crown and fifth overall on the Easter long weekend.

Competing at the ACT’s Belconnen Bowl, Hayward rolled an average of 178 to win the title by a very tight six pins.
His win was the most recent of a string of success for Orange bowlers over the last few weeks, particularly at the 2017 Junior National Championships at Lidcombe’s Tenpin City.
Six of Orange Tenpin Bowls youngsters competed, in a number of competitions including the Australian Junior Championships, the Restricted and Classic Cups, the Open Masters and the President’s Shield.
Lily O’Connor, Brody Jadezak and Dubbo’s Ben Walsh and Lachlan Robertson all made their debut for the Western Warriors as well.
On top of that Orange’s Alicia McFadden starred for NSW and Micaylah Downey was drafted into Tasmania’s President’s Shield side.
McFadden was Orange’s standout bowler, claiming a personal haul of five medals.
She won gold in the Junior Females Classic Singles, silver in the Junior Female Classic Teams and President’s Shield Combined Teams and two bronze medals as well.
She won one in he Classic Cup and another with her NSW side in the President’s Shield Female Teams, which finished third behind North Queensland and Victoria respectively.
Personally, she was electrifying in the latter competition, winning 14 of 18 matches and bowling an average of 193 across those 18 games.
She also Qualified 10th to make the Open Masters and made it to the third round before being knocked out by the eventual winner Australian representative Rebekah Commane.
She capped it off with the Director’s Award for Outstanding Achievement during the President’s Shield.
Lily O’Connor was Orange’s next best with silver medals in the Junior Female D Grade Singles and All Events and the Junior B Grade Mixed Teams.
Micaylah Downey also won a silver medal, finishing second in the Female B Grade Doubles with Nicole King.
She helped her Tasmanian team to sixth in the Female Teams and seventh overall in the Combined Teams too.
Jadezak and Walsh both claimed silver medals too, in the Junior B Grade Mixed teams.
They rounded out the entire Western team’s superb performance at the Australian titles.
An incredible all-round showing netted every single member of the unit at least one podium finish.
