After winning through to the finals the Hornets thumped Mudgee in the penultimate fixture, winning 65-16, before taking down Dubbo to claim the title.
OHS won the final 48-38, securing a reasonably comfortable 10-goal win.
As a result, the black and golds head to Sydney in August to compete in the NSWCHS Knockout, which pits the 16 best regional and metropolitan public schools against each other to determine the overall state champion.
OHS has been a force to be reckoned with at past NSWCHS Knockouts and with an agile, strong side this year the Hornets look likely to push deep into the tournament again.
In Thursday’s other semi-final Dubbo defeated Cowra 53-47, before the latter side went on to trump Mudgee 49-22 to claim the bronze.
The trials for the Western CHS side were also held, with a number of the colour city’s guns making the cut – as you’d expect, considering OHS’ dominance.
Orange’s Cheynoah Merchant, Mariah Robinson, Anna Matthews, Milika Tuinakauvadra and Tabua Tuinakauvadra were all named for Western, as was Parkes’ Alice Maier – she plays club netball in Orange.
Dubbo’s Ally McLean and Natasha Janetzki also made it, as did Cowra’s India Johnson and Blayney’s Soph Stammers.
