The man, his wife and in-laws sat down to enjoy their dinner and a movie on Saturday night.
The man’s father-in-law took a bite of his chicken and commented that it didn’t taste right.
When they turned the lights on, they discovered the raw chicken.
A subsequent check of the remaining pieces found that each piece in the meal was either completely raw or quite pink.
The man took the food back to the Bathurst franchise where he was given a full refund.
He said he was satisfied with the manager’s “polite and apologetic” response, but it didn’t excuse customers being served several pieces of raw chicken.
The man said his family would unlikely eat from KFC again and encouraged other residents to exercise caution if they choose to eat there.
“There was a couple of people in the outdoor eating area [when I took the chicken back] and I showed them the photo … I think they were turned off from eating,” he said.
The man said he was aware the Bathurst store had received penalty notices before but gave the local business the benefit of the doubt after never experiencing issues himself.
“It’s one thing to have dirty benches, but serving chicken like that is not good enough,” he said.
In his personal opinion, he thinks the poor cooking had to do more with management than the employees.
“It’s not the kids’ fault who work at KFC; it is management,” he said.
“If you’ve got someone yelling at you to get orders out, you’re going to cut corners.”
The Western Advocate reported in June last year that the Bathurst KFC outlet had been placed on the NSW Food Authority’s name and shame list and fined $1540 for selling unsafe food.
The fine followed an inspection by Bathurst Regional Council food inspectors and came a year after council had fined Bathurst KFC $880 for failing to take all practicable measures to eradicate pests and a further $880 for failing to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness.
KFC Australia has been contacted for comment.
