Well, Nessie still hasn’t surfaced, but the Bluebaggers will have a shot at winning their first President’s Cup title since 2009-10 after sneaking into next Sunday’s final on net run rate.
The Bluebaggers upset Bathurst a fortnight ago and a glimmer of hope returned, before the Barracudas knocked off the Blue Mountains on Sunday.
With all three sides boasting one win and one loss, net run rate determined the finalists.
As a result, Bathurst will host Orange in the decider.
Bathurst earned hosting rights thanks, largely, to skipper Jameel Qureshi and Wayne Sellers.
With their side reeling at 4-27 chasing the Cattle Dogs’ 125 at The Scots School on Sunday, Sellers (55 not out) and Qureshi (48 not out) didn’t just salvage the chase, they got their side over the line and did so in speedy fashion.
They had to be quick too, to ensure their net run rate was good enough to earn hosting rights.
Qureshi and Sellers got the job done in less than 25 overs, in the end.
“We were under the pump a bit there … Wayne batted really well, we got a partnership together and did the business. It was really good,” Qureshi said.
