The Victoria Spitfires and Ophir Deviates fought hard for their narrow 6-5 wins over division two’s Royal Renegades and Metro Old Boys, respectively, making for an interesting nine rounds before the competitions are graded.
Jess Wiegold debuted for the Spitfires by hitting a 180 and three 100s. John Grevink (121), Mark Wiegold (4x100), Jason Fewings (115, 108, 100), Graeme (122) and Will Owers (100) were strong too.
Renegades’ Mick Kennedy was huge, hitting a 180 and a 100. Nathan Walsh (122,100), Dan Allen (2x100, 135) and Steve Leonard (140) were the other top scorers.
New team Ophir Deviates beat Metro Old Boys 6-5 with Matt Caughlan (3x100, 134), Nathan Fitzpatrick (100) and Joe Thorpe (2x100) getting the top scores.
Troy Mavrak (2x100, 125) and Jeff Grindrod (140, 121, 100) were the Old Boys’ best.
The Metro Pilots were too strong for the Ophir Nuggets, winning 10-1 but the games were much closer than the score indicated.
Rob Herbert (2x140, 3x100, 121) and Terry McInnes (100) played well for the Nuggets. The Great Western Tigers had a forfeit from the Victoria Outcasts and the Devils had a bye.
Nomination fees must be paid by the end of the week or teams will lose points.
RESULTS: Victoria Spitfires 6 def Royal Renegades 5, Ophir Deviates 6 def Metro Old Boys 5, Metro Pilots 10 def Ophir Nuggets 1, Great Western Tigers won via forfeit, Devils BYE.
