The Sydney Thunder roll into town next week to play the Hong Kong national side in two Twenty20 trial games.
Cousins, a former NSW Country Cricket curator of the year, has built a reputation for producing sterling wickets at the drop of a hat, and he said the Wade Park square is coming along as well as he could hope.
Although he’s confident now, Cousins admitted to being slightly worried at times, particularly through August when the square itself resembled little more than a mudheap during the back end of the Group 10 Rugby League season.
“It was a little bit worrying because I hadn’t seen the (sopping) conditions before. I had to find grass that was buried under inches of mud,” Cousins laughed.
“It’s got us about a month behind where we normally would be. Week-in-week-out, wet grounds, a wet wicket, it was a bit of a mess to fix up.
“The wicket’s progressing nicely at this stage so I can’t foresee anything going wrong.”
The Thunder play Hong Kong on Sunday, December 11.
