Councillor Scott Munro, who unsuccessfully ran for Nationals pre-selection before quitting the party over the greyhound ban and running as an independent, gained 9.4 per cent of the primary vote as of Sunday night, which was in line with expectations.
Fellow councillor Kevin Duffy gained 6.48 per cent of the primary vote.
Cr Munro said he had no regrets about leaving the Nationals due to the greyhound industry ban and forced council mergers.
“I know one thing, I couldn’t have tried much harder and I couldn’t have shown more passion,” he said.
“Whatever happens, I’m a councillor of Orange, and I’m proud of that – we do it for very little, what we do as councillors, but we care.”
He did not believe the reversal of the greyhound ban affected his chances.
“[The ban is] still in legislation and people should be mindful of that,” he said.
