Push for Palliative’s president Tracey Wilkinson presented Ms Mitchell with a comprehensive strategic plan for palliative care services in Orange formulated following a public forum held at the Orange Ex-Services’ Club earlier this year.
Vice-president Jenny Hazelton said Ms Mitchell was interested to hear about the challenges Orange faced.
"We did explain that community feedback following the May forum was to see a separate area established in the hospital for palliative care patients who are currently cared for in various parts of the hospital where patients are subject to very different medical environments and situations," Mrs Hazelton said.
"The reality is that significant resourcing and funding is required to achieve changes.
“We are all working towards enabling and supporting best practice care for palliative and end of life care patients and their families in the hospital and the community to ensure appropriate privacy and dignity wherever they are,” she said.
Ms Mitchell said she was interested in looking at different palliative care models across the state.
"In my role I travel throughout the state and this is a big issue,” she said.
The meeting was organised by deputy mayor Cr Jason Hamling who talked at the public forum about his own family’s experience with palliative care.
