They made it last year, too, and in 2016, finished the knockout tournament in second spot.
OPS teacher Brad Tom said simply making it through to the final eight in the state was another feather in the cap for the boys, making it through to the final was even better.
“It’s a massive achievement for the team,” Tom said.
“The coach is Tony Kay, and all of the boys performed exceptionally well on the field and then their sportsmanship and encouragement of each other was outstanding as well.
“The boys’ conduct was exemplary and they were great representatives of the school.”
Western region champions, the OPS boys knocked off Valentine Public School in their quarter-final clash 6-2.
They then put six touchdowns past Warnervale in the semi-final, ending their final-four encounter with the Central Coast-based public school 6-2 winners, again.
Up against Gerringong PS in the final, the south coast champions proved a tough opponent and, ultimately, worthy winners courtesy of a 6-1 triumph, earning the state title.
Tom, though, was full of praise for both the players and parents that represented OPS in Sydney.
“We’re delighted with the parents’ response to it all as well,” he said.
“Just about all of the parents made it down to Werribee for the knockout, which is great support for the school.”
