The community day promoted Interrelate’s counselling services and free royal commission community-based support services to help survivors with the effects of childhood trauma and build healthy relationships.
Interrelate area manger Anne Heath said across NSW the service saw more than 320 people last year and about 200 people this year.
“I’ve been working around the Orange region for about five years and a large proportion who have approached counsellors have trauma histories,” Ms Heath said. “Many of these people are experiencing difficulty in their daily life, for example drug and alcohol problems or mental health issues.”
Blue Knot Day aims to raise awareness of child abuse, tackle stigma, foster hope and promote recovery for survivors.
