During a consultation meeting, people volunteered their time, financial support and other donations, to get the proposed shelter off the ground. Housing Plus’ partner in the proposed shelter, Women’s Community Shelters, committed $25,000 towards the initial start-up costs of $50,000.
Housing Plus’ regional community programs manager Penny Dordoy said the money would go towards finding a property, securing it and then furnishing it.
“The meeting was really successful, we’ve had offers of time on committees, money, donations and in-kind support,” she said. Ms Dordoy said Housing Plus would need the community’s help to raise the next $25,000.
“We’ve already had interest from our community groups like Rotary, Zonta and Quota to help fund-raise.”
