Exactly how good was Alice Maier in Saturday’s Orange Toyota Cup division one grand final?
So good the Royal Hawks shooter was awarded most valuable player from the losing side.
The 16-year-old was a sensation in the Hawks’ shooting circle, and teamed beautifully with fellow shooter Kristin Zinga.
Despite this performance, Maier was stunned to win the MVP for the biggest game of the season.
“I didn’t think they give it someone from a losing team,” Maier said.
“When you’re playing you just play, you don’t know that you’re doing it that good. Then everyone tells you played well. I thought I made heaps off errors and I was freaking out the whole time.”
Maier shot at 78.9 per cent for the decider including not missing an attempt in extra-time.
“We’ve got our Hawks presentation night tonight. Everyone is saying they’ll shout me lemonades,” she laughed.
