The last greyhound meetings will be held on June 30 next year after an "orderly industry shutdown".
Haaring, a trainer for 20 years and president of the Mudgee club for seven, said he was disgusted and angry about the state government’s move, made in response to an 800-page report tabled by a Special Commission into cruelty in the industry.
A shocked Haaring said he believed that the industry was working through the issues raised by the inquiry and would have an opportunity to respond to findings.
“We have around 80 greyhounds running every time we meet,” he said.
“There are a couple of hundred people involved.
“I’ve invested a lot of money in the industry in the local area.
“We were just expanding our operations and trying to move forward with the industry. I’m just gutted.”
Haaring said his options now were to stop training and racing greyhounds or to move interstate.
He predicted that greyhound owners would lobby the government strongly in the coming months.
