With just one win from six starts the Tigers are sixth on the 2016 Central West AFL standings, 12 points adrift of the top four and only ahead of the Saints by percentage, Young have also only scored one win.
The Tigers can’t afford to let their slump continue, Rothnie said, or they’ll be chasing their black and gold striped tails in the back end of the season, even more than they already are.
With 12 games - including Saturday - remaining until the finals Rothnie said his side is fully aware making the play-offs will be an uphill battle, they’ll need to win the majority of those games to catch up and work their way into the top four.
“All the boys know it’s now or never, really,” Rothnie said, defiantly.
“It’s time to go on from here, so we’ve been working pretty hard on the training track lately.
“We’ve got the home ground advantage this weekend, so I’m confident the boys can step up from here and grab a win this weekend and then a couple more in the next few weeks.”
Rothnie said last weekend’s representative bye couldn’t have come at a better time for the embattled Tigers, he explained it gave them a chance to come together as a group and have an honest look at where they are and where they want to be as a team.
“The break definitely helped, we sat down as a group last week after training and went through what we think will help us reach the finals from here,” he said.
“We agreed to change some things up at training, mainly our attitude and how we go about developing our players that haven’t had that much exposure to the game.”
Rothnie’s hoping those changes translate into performance against Young.
“We always expect Young to come out pretty hard home or away, they’ve got some handy players by the sounds of it and we’re both one win from six games, they’ll be as hungry for their second win as we are,” he said.
First bounce at Country Club Oval is at 2.30pm.
