IN the Sydney Morning Herald’s Column 8, I recently came across a word I hadn’t seen or heard for a long time.

The word was “dooverlackie”, and that set me thinking of similar words (that also appeared soon after in Column 8).
These words included “thingy-me-bob”, “thingy-me-jig” and “watcher-me-call-it”. What strange, delightful words! Those few words may also remind some readers of the amusing poem, The Trianti-wonti-gon-golope by C.J. Dennis.
P.S. In my opinion, the July 2 federal election will be one of the most important for a number of years. I hope that all voters think long and hard about the issues and policies from both major parties, and then vote correctly.
