Sportsbet public relations officer Christian Jantzen said there had been some interest.
“We have received a few bets on the favourite for the candidacy the state member for Orange, Andrew Gee, but also Bathurst’s Sam Farraway. We will keep the market open ‘til Saturday.’’
Political markets are usually very close to the mark when elections are held, with many savvy punters laying money even in tight contests.
The Coalition is viewed a $1.01 bet to win the prized seat with Labor at $20.
Mr Gee is at Black Caviar-type odds to win preselection, but Orange butcher Scott Munro may firm in from his original quote of $20.
The betting agency gives others in the race little chance of causing an upset when local branch members meet to elect their candidate for the seat, which covers an area from Lithgow to Geurie, near Wellington.
A poll on Fairfax Media websites has Mr Gee slightly ahead of Mr Farraway, who gained strong support during the last 24 hours.
Mr Gee was polling 35 per cent of those who voted on the person best suited to lead The Nationals on July 2, narrowly ahead of Mr Farraway at 32 per cent, Alison Conn 24 per cent and Cr Munro on 7 per cent.
