McCalman, a veteran of 46 Tests, has been named on the bench for the decider as one of Chieka’s famed finishers, a role the versatile back-rower has become more than adept at over the course of the tournament.

In fact, in terms of impact, McCalman, arguably Kinross’ greatest sporting product, has regularly been touted as the best reserve in the tournament.

Considering the strength of the Wallabies’ back-row of David Pocock, Michael Hooper and Scott Fardy, whether McCalman gets any time on field remains to be seen, but regardless, there’s no doubt he’s done the Colour City proud so far.

In particular, those at Kinross.

“Yeah definitely, Kinross, it’s a great rugby school and Ben will certainly be making everyone proud,” Cameron Rasmussen, a current Kinross student, said.

“I’m not really sure if anyone here watched him play, but he’s come back here over the years, which has been great for the guys in the first and second XV.”

Rasmussen, along with Nedd Brockmann, Tom Cummins, Hamish Ellis-Peck, Will Freeth, Max Manson, Ally Thurn, Amber Smith, Lucy Hickmann, Fenella Jamieson are just 10 of the Kinross students champing at the bit for the clash, even if it does kick off at 3am.

Expectedly, all 10 predicted a Wallabies victory.

“I’m not sure whether everyone will stay up, or set the alarm,” Rasmussen said.

Despite conceding the Wallabies will start as underdogs, Rasmussen used Australia’s victory over New Zealand in the first Bledisloe Cup game as an example of the fact the All Blacks are not unbeatable.

“History certainly can repeat itself, but I think it’s up to the players to take the opportunity,” he said.

“I think the Wallabies just by a few, it’ll be a close game.”

The Rugby World Cup final kicks off at 3am (AEDT), and is televised live on GEM.
