As well as tasting entries from the Orange Region Wine Show, this year the Central Western Daily is offering participants the chance to be the judge in the People’s Choice Wine Award.
By entering the people’s choice award, participants can see if they agree with the judges on the gold medal-winning wines and how their taste buds fare against other participants.
The most popular winery will be presented with a perpetual trophy, while a lucky voter will win a dozen bottles of gold-medal wines.
Voting will be available online via the Central Western Daily website and during the public wine tasting.
The winner will be announced at the night market in Robertson Park on Friday, October 30.
During the public tasting, Orange winemaker Will Rikard-Bell will offer his expert advice during a wine tasting masterclass.
“I will be covering two varieties and 12 wines [with] six of each variety and highlighting the good points Orange does well compared to different varieties [and regions],” he said.
“[Participants] will be instructed on technique, what to look for and what makes a good wine [according to] wine judges and wine makers.”
However, when it comes to choosing a favourite, he said essentially it was up to each person’s taste buds and preferences.
The wines he will focus on are riesling and warmer Bordeaux-style wines such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot.
Orange Wine Show Tasting will be at the Agricultural Pavilion at Orange Showground, Leeds Parade Orange from 5pm to 8pm and the masterclass will be at 5.15pm and 7pm.
