In the midst of a purple patch, the colour city will this weekend host the Central West AFL grand finals at Tigerland on Saturday before the eyes of the Group 10 world turn to Wade Park for this year’s rugby league grand finals, hosted by Orange CYMS.
Take a breath.
We’re only just getting started.
Then, following on from a huge weekend prior, Endeavour Oval will play host to the 2015 Blowes Clothing Cup rugby union grand finals on Saturday, September 19, before the A-League hits town the next day, September 20, Newcastle Jets playing Central Coast Mariners at Wade Park in both clubs’ final trial game before the season proper.
Orange has hosted Group 10 and Blowes Clothing Cup grand final days before - plenty of times in fact.
Central West AFL, too, had its day of days in Orange just last year.
But never have all three been in the one place.
And to then follow it up with the A-League’s return to Wade Park, the game’s first appearance in Orange in eight seasons, there’s little doubt the next fortnight of sport in Orange is going to be Darrell Eastlake huge.
Because, let’s face it, the word bumper just doesn’t seem adequate enough anymore.
“It was bound to come together eventually,” Emus coaching director Andrew Logan said.
“Orange is so strong across all codes, and even hockey. The next couple of weeks is going to be tremendous.”
Tigers president Luke Whitton said the black and golds were pumped to be part of such a successful period for Orange sport - with the club gunning to record its own piece of history if it can claim three straight first grade flags.
“We’ve never done that before so to be in this position, I suppose it’s the culmination of a lot of hard work as a club,” he said.
CYMS president Ray Agland said his club was thrilled to be staging the grand finals at Wade Park for the first time since 2010.
Don't forget, either, Orange's premier netball competition will have its champion determined this weekend as well when Robin Hood clashes with Life Studio - a battle that hasn't let slip its intensity in nearly a decade of duels.
And then, of course, there’s the A-League.
A clash that has no doubt whet the football appetites of the city’s soccer faithful since it was announced both club’s would be finalising their preparations for the 2015-16 season with the Wade Park clash.
No matter what code you follow, the next 13 days will be a smorgasbord of footy.
