“NOBODY comes to my home town and knocks me out.”
Sam Ah-See has lit the fuse for a potentially explosive return to the Orange Function Centre on Friday week, issuing a massive warning shot for experienced Filipino boxer Arnel Tinampay.
Tinampay was confirmed as Ah-See’s opponent yesterday, with the news securing the 31-year-old from Dagohoy, Bohol, in the Philippines, a hugely desired re-match after Ah-See scored a split points decision win (79-74, 77-76, 76-76) over the veteran of 41 fights in September, 2013.
Since then, team Tinampay has been gunning for Ah-See, and by gunning, they aim to knock him out.
The Australian National Boxing Federation super-welterweight champion has welcomed the challenge.
“The last guy who said that to me nearly got himself knocked out,” Ah-See said referring to his victorious Australian title fight against Shannon King in 2014.
“Nobody comes to my home town and knocks me out.
“I’m in tip top shape, and I’m coming home victorious.”
Tinampay has a somewhat mixed record of 22 wins, 18 losses and a draw since turning professional in 2004.
Ah-See is undefeated from 13 bouts, and will head into his second professional fight in his home town of Orange the clear favourite to continue his unbeaten run.
But, it won’t be easy against a man who has previously been the main sparring partner for a highly acclaimed world champion.
“I only found out after the last time I fought him that he was Manny Pacquiao’s sparring partner, twice. It made a lot of sense,” Ah-See said, the pair last meeting in Dubbo.
“But I was off the last time we fought, and even on a bad day I came away with the win.
“I’m four times the fighter now.”
Ah-See said he’s ready to go, and will ramp up preparations this week with as many as five, eight to 10 round sparring sessions.
“We’re training at a ridiculous level,” he added.
“He’s had more wins than loses and he’s an experienced fighter. He’s tough, he’s awkward, but I’m ready to go.”
