Held at the West Room of the Orange Regional Gallery, Saturday’s sessions will be the last of this series of casting calls.

The casting call for objects made in or used in Orange will be at 10.30am and items from World War I and the home front can be brought in for the 2pm session. There will be an exhibition in the museum on WW I in 2018  stories of the women who contributed to the war effort at home and of those that served in the war are needed. 

Orange historian Ross Maroney will be the guest speaker for the morning session and will talk about breweries, cordial factories and brick making. 

“In the very early days there were several flour mills here in town, we had two big breweries that made beer, ales and soft drinks ... there was a large boot factory in Glenroi, Bowen’s, they would have done their own tanning of leather that was brought from all over the Central West,” Mr Maroney said.

He said there were also several cordial businesses including Barrett’s, Mayfield’s and Stabback’s as well as wool mills, a textile factory and Emmco, which became Email and was later taken over by Electrolux.

Mr Maroney said people were welcome to bring in old items or photos of old items from Orange’s industrial past and he hopes to learn of businesses he’s never heard about.

Staff will be on hand to record information and to photograph objects throughout the day to create a record of objects for potential loans or donation in future exhibitions.
