Nearly 100 students from Bathurst will make the journey to face off against Dubbo Senior College in eight sporting matches.
Sports co-ordinator Darren Hamilton predicts his students will be able to get on top of their opponents in several sports, while a few of the others could go either way.
“We should do well in the tennis, the girls’ hockey and soccer,” he said.
Bathurst beat Orange High School in the first tie of the Astley Cup with a total of 434 points to 366.
But Dubbo could prove the toughest competitors, with Mr Hamilton saying in the past the school had strong players in girls’ netball, boys’ rugby league and boys’ basketball.
If Bathurst students are to secure the Astley Cup, they must pull off a win against Dubbo as their point differential of 60 will not be enough on its own.
“We beat Orange and Orange beat Dubbo,” Mr Hamilton said.
“All things going well, we should be able to have a positive result at the end of day two.”
The students attending the two-day event are confident that they can keep up their great performance from their first tie to finish victors.
“They are really looking forward to it because it looks good that we’ll take the cup after handing it over to Orange last year,” Mr Hamilton said.
If Bathurst students finish up strongly tomorrow, they will claim their fourth title in six years.
