Out of a budget of $100,000, used to help fund clubs and groups across Orange, WRAS was allocated $2140, while the City of Orange Veterans Golf Incorporated was granted $1000 support for its annual veterans golf tournament.
Orange Hawks also applied to have a reduction in hire fees of Wade Park, of which $500 was granted to help with costs.
Headed into its 39th year, the Orange Eight Day Games - King and Queen of Sport - was allocated $750 after applying for $3000 to subsidise events, trophies, prizes, insurance and administration costs.
A highly-competitive process where not every club is allocated exactly what they’ve asked for, councillor Hamling said the allocation of funds was designed to help each applicant secure further money down the track.
He dubbing the funds seed money.
“That’s what I’d call it, if they wanted to use it to grow into something bigger, then that’s the idea,” he said.
“Each of these four clubs and organisations applied for grants under the same category as other community groups in Orange, and it’s a tough decision to weigh up the merits of one group against another.
“There is support for individuals who have made state or national representative teams.
“There are also dollar-for-dollar grants to help clubs upgrade local capital projects at the council grounds they use, such as a new scoreboard or goal posts.”
