FC kicked off the season with a 3-all draw against clubmates Waratahs Old Boys two weekends ago, and had to settle for a nil-all draw with Millthorpe despite having a one man advantage for much of the clash.
Millthorpe had a man sent off just prior to the half-time break, in what is now somewhat of a grudge match, and despite FC’s front men having the best of territory and opportunities the sky blues weren’t able to hit the back of the net.
“I can remember our guys hitting the woodwork three times, but it could well have been more than that,” FC midfielder Ryan Sinclair, who dislocated his knee in the draw, said.
“We had our opportunities, so did Millthorpe, we just couldn’t put one in. To their credit they kept coming at us. It was a pretty good game really.
“I think we probably should have won, in terms of having more opportunities, but we had our problems with injury. I went off, then Jack (Sinclair) got hurt as well, which didn’t help.”
Sinclair highlighted Derek Johns as his side’s best having made several crucial saves, and said former Western Premier League star Adam Kelly shone as well.
“We also had a young bloke come up from C grade and play on the wing, I think he’s only 16,” Sinclair explained.
“We had a couple pull out late, which didn’t help, but he came and helped us out and did pretty well.”
Waratahs City trumped a strong CSU unit 4-3 thanks to a late Brendon Centofanti goal in the surprise result of the round, while Old Boys won out 6-4 over Barnstoneworth United.
“I watched the CSU and City game, most of it anyway, it was a cracker of a game,” Sinclair said.
“CSU are a good side, and City have picked up some handy players this year. Both sides will do well I’d say.
FC clashes with City this weekend in round three, while Barnstoneworth takes on CSU. Millthorpe plays Blayney, and Old Boys have the bye.
