Rally co-ordinator John Davis said participants would talk openly about the trials for the first time during the during the April-May rally.
“We’re very, very happy to have been asked to support the trials and we’ll take the challenge on,” Mr Davis said.
“We’re also very excited from the point of view that Cancer Care Western NSW has gone from being an accommodation-based service to being able to be involved in drug trials, which helps so many people in the community and local people like Steve, which is fantastic, you can see the results.”
He described the rally entrants as “mobile publicity machines” for what cancer services were out there.
“The best thing about the actual Cruisin’ Along is that it’s not necessarily all about raising money,” he said.
“It’s about raising awareness of the programs available and to get people to realise that there’s treatments out there too ... and to give everyone hope.”
Cruisin’ Along leaves from Orange on Thursday, April 30 and goes through Dubbo, Moree and Roma to Longreach; then Winton, Quilpie, Cunnamulla, Lightning Ridge and Gilgandra before returning to Orange on Sunday, May 10.
